Can You Cross Double White Lines in Texas?

The Texas handbook is direct about double white lines between lanes: drivers should not change lanes or turn across them. Its pavement-markings section puts it more firmly still. Crossing is prohibited where there are double solid white lines.

On the test, watch the color and the count. Double white lines mark a barrier you stay behind, even when the traffic on the other side is going your way. A single solid white line is softer: the handbook says to avoid crossing it if possible.

The page with the double white lines also covers lane use. Slower traffic should keep out of the far left lane, which is for passing. A center lane is only for vehicles turning left, never for passing or driving through.
