Texas DPS Permit Practice Test
30 questions from the January 2026 Texas Driver Handbook, scored at 70 percent, the pass mark DPS publishes. Answer each one and see why straight away.
Topic: Insurance & Registration
How soon must you register a newly purchased vehicle?
How this practice test works
DPS says you need 70 percent to pass any knowledge exam, but it doesn't publish how many questions the Class C exam has. This practice test uses the Drive Prep app's 30-question format with 21 correct to pass, which holds the 70 percent mark. The questions come from the app's free set, and each one cites its handbook page.
If you're under 25, your driver education course may give you the knowledge exam instead of a DPS office. The questions come from the same handbook either way. Nothing here is timed.
