Must You Yield to a Pedestrian Entering a Crosswalk in Ohio?
A pedestrian is entering a crosswalk ahead of you. What must you do?
Short answer: Yield. You must give the right-of-way to pedestrians entering or already in a crosswalk.
Why
The Ohio Driver Manual says it in one line: you must yield the right-of-way to pedestrians entering or in a crosswalk. The pedestrian does not have to be halfway across. Stepping in is enough.
On the knowledge test, watch for wording like "entering" or "about to cross." Answers that let you go first because you have a green light or because the person is still near the curb are wrong.
The same section adds one more detail. If there is a stop line before the crosswalk, you stop at the stop line, not at the edge of the crosswalk. Crosswalks are not all painted the same way, so look for both.
